Computing practice that makes reasoning visible

Educator CSP Lab helps students investigate computing, explain algorithms, build programs and prepare for AP CSP — and gives teachers the evidence to direct revision.

csp-lab / labs / club-capacity

Scenario

A student wants clubs that still have at least 3 places.

Checkpoints

  • Predict the result
  • Trace each element
  • Explain the parameter
PROCEDURE countAvailable(capacities, minimum){  count ← 0  FOR EACH places IN capacities  {    IF (places ≥ minimum)    {      count ← count + 1    }  }  RETURN count}
Example trace for capacities [0, 5, 2, 8] and minimum 3
posplacesplaces ≥ 3count

25true1
32false1
48true2

Written hint 1

The loop visits every value. Which values make the condition true?

Explain

Why does minimum make this procedure reusable?

How it works

Learn, Investigate, Explain, Reassess

Each activity follows the same four moves, so students know what is expected and teachers can see where reasoning breaks down.
  1. Learn

Short readable lessons introduce an idea through a realistic scenario and a worked example.

  2. Investigate

Students predict, then step through an algorithm and watch each value and condition change.

  3. Explain

Notes, tests and reflections ask students to say why the program behaves as it does.

  4. Reassess

Checks link missed ideas back to lesson sections so students revise and try again.

Course

The five Big Ideas

The course map is organised by the five AP CSP Big Ideas: 35 topics with 70 authored lessons and 30 investigations. Also available is the separate 12-lesson, 8-lab pilot, plus Sequence 1 and a short sample activity. The course follows all 35 current topics; educator review and classroom calibration remain pending.

  • Big Idea 1 · CRD

    Creative Development

Collaborating, designing for a purpose, and finding and correcting errors in programs.

  • Big Idea 2 · DAT

    Data

Representing information with bits, compressing it, and extracting knowledge from data.

Assessments and Create practice

Checks that lead to revision

Use public self-checks for quick practice and teacher-assigned AP-style questions for saved work, submissions, feedback and revision.

Assessments

Five teacher-scored parts contain 70 original AP-style questions with current topic weighting and question formats. Public self-checks provide immediate explanations. A timed full-exam simulator is still planned; no AP score is predicted.

Explore classroom assessments

Create Studio

Practice projects kept clearly separate from official Create performance task work, which students submit through the AP Digital Portfolio. A four-prompt written-response rehearsal is available as a classroom assignment. Create Studio itself is still planned.

What works in this preview

Accounts, classes, saved assignments and feedback work today. Teachers can choose pilot, full-course and AP-style assessment templates. The 70-lesson, 30-lab set is authored; independent educator review and classroom calibration are next. Public demo work stays on your device.

Works now

  • Student and teacher accounts with email confirmation; teaching access is reviewed by an administrator
  • Classes with join codes, assignments with due dates, cloud-saved drafts and submissions
  • Teacher feedback that stays private until released, plus return for revision with attempt history
  • Sequence 1: list traversal — a lesson, trace investigation, diagnostic check, reassessment and a class assignment teachers can assign today
  • A shorter sample activity (lesson, interactive trace lab and three-question check) that teachers can also assign
  • Pilot course: 12 lessons and 8 guided labs, with 20 assignment templates whose teacher guides stay private
  • Seventy course lessons, thirty investigations and one hundred protected lesson/lab teacher guides
  • Seventy original AP-style classroom questions in five teacher-scored parts, plus a Create written-response rehearsal
  • ASCEND missions with first-answer XP, multi-day mastery rules and earned character powers
  • Public demo without an account; demo work stays on this device
